St. Andrews Pipe Band
The St. Andrew's Society of Central Illinois (SASCI) Pipes and Drums have been a part of the Springfield community since 1989. The original band was comprised of 5 bagpipers, 1 highland snare drummer, and 1 bass drummer. The band has grown to over forty active members and is currently under the direction of Pipe Major Tom Ogilvy.
Saint Andrews Society of Central Illinois Pipes and Drums was created with the primary mission to promote, educate, and spread the traditional Celtic culture through performances, parades, and competition. SASCI Pipes and Drums travel throughout the United States representing Springfield Illinois at various Highland Game Pipe Band competitions. In 2003, St. Andrew's Pipes and Drums won the United States Open Championship, and in 2004, the band was awarded the top honor of Champion Supreme from the Midwest Pipe Band Association. We have traveled as far as Orlando, Florida; Stone Mountain, Georgia; and Ontario, Canada to compete. SASCI Pipes and Drums has also participated in over 100 parades and festivals throughout the Midwest. Currently we are a competitive Grade 4 band and usually have around twenty five competitive players; the rest of our group joins us in our stand up performances.
