The St. Andrew's Society of Central Illinois,
Pipes and Drums, as part of the St. Andrew's Society of Central
Illinois, have been a part of the Springfield community since 1989.
The original band was comprised of 5 bagpipers, 1 side drummer (also
referred to a snare drummer) and 1 bass drummer. The
band has grown to over 50 active members with one of the original
members still participating.
The mission of St. Andrew's Pipes and Drums is to
promote Celtic culture by performing music on the bagpipes and
drums. The Pipe and Drum Band travels throughout the United
States and Canada representing Springfield, IL., in pipe band
competitions. As well as competing, St. Andrew's Pipes
and Drums participates in many parades and festivals throughout the
Midwest. In 2003, St. Andrew's Pipes and Drums won the
United States Open Championship, and in 2004, the band was awarded
the top honor of Championship Supreme from the Midwest Pipe Band
Association.
The tartan worn by the band is "The
Pride of Scotland" tartan. This tartan was introduced in 1997 as
a new tartan. In 1998, the band was granted permission to
wear the tartan as their official tartan.
The band
is under the direction of Pipe Major Tom Ogilvy.

Some of the original drummers in the band circa 1991 or early 1992.
